About Maenam

Maenam began in 2019 when a group of families in Lamphun recognized the need for a different kind of senior care — one that felt less like a facility and more like home. They envisioned a place where their parents and grandparents could live beside the river, surrounded by gardens and gentle routines, in the company of others who valued the same peace and dignity.

The name "Maenam" means "river" in Thai, reflecting our connection to the water that flows past our community. The river has always been central to life in northern Thailand — a source of nourishment, a gathering place, and a reminder of the passage of time. At Maenam, we honor this tradition by creating a living environment where residents can watch the river, walk its banks, and find comfort in its constant, gentle presence.

From the beginning, we committed to keeping our community small. With a maximum of eighteen residents, we ensure that every person is known by name, that their preferences are remembered, and that their days are shaped by what brings them comfort rather than by institutional schedules. Our care companions develop genuine relationships with residents and families, providing consistency and trust that only comes from time spent together.

Today, Maenam continues to serve families throughout Lamphun and the surrounding provinces. We remain dedicated to our founding principles: maintaining a small community size, honoring Thai cultural values, providing care that respects each person's autonomy, and creating an environment where daily life unfolds naturally, shaped by the rhythm of the river and the warmth of companionship.

Our Approach to Care

Person-Centered Philosophy

We recognize that each resident has lived a full life with unique experiences, preferences, and values. Our care approach honors this individuality rather than treating everyone the same.

Small Community Size

With a maximum of eighteen residents, we maintain the intimacy and personal attention that larger facilities cannot provide. Every person is known by name and their daily routines are familiar to all staff.

Family Partnership

We view families as partners in care. Monthly gatherings, open communication, and welcoming visiting policies ensure that families remain connected and involved in their loved one's daily life.

Natural Environment

Our riverside location is central to the community experience. Residents have daily access to gardens, river views, and outdoor spaces that promote well-being and connection to nature.

Fresh Local Cuisine

Meals are prepared daily using fresh ingredients from local markets. We accommodate dietary preferences and cultural food traditions, ensuring that mealtimes are enjoyable and nourishing.

Meaningful Activities

Our activity program draws on the natural setting and local culture, offering riverside walks, garden sessions, temple visits, and seasonal celebrations that honor Thai traditions.

Our Values and Commitment

At Maenam, we hold ourselves to principles that guide every decision we make and every interaction we have with residents and families. These values shape our community and ensure that we remain true to our founding mission.

Dignity in Daily Life: We believe that every person deserves to live with dignity, autonomy, and respect. This means honoring each resident's choices about their daily routines, personal space, and participation in community activities. We never impose schedules or requirements that diminish a person's sense of control over their own life.

Transparency with Families: Families entrust us with the care of their loved ones, and we honor that trust through open, honest communication. We provide regular updates, welcome questions and concerns, and maintain an open-door policy for family visits and involvement. Monthly family gatherings ensure that everyone stays connected and informed.

Cultural Sensitivity: We recognize and honor the cultural values, religious practices, and life experiences that shape each resident's identity. Our staff is trained to provide care that respects Thai customs and Buddhist traditions while accommodating individual preferences and backgrounds.

Consistency of Care: Each resident is assigned a dedicated care companion who becomes familiar with their needs, preferences, and daily patterns. This consistency builds trust and allows residents to feel secure knowing that someone who understands them is always present.

Connection to Community: We maintain relationships with local temples, markets, and cultural sites, ensuring that residents remain connected to the wider Lamphun community. Regular excursions and visits from local groups help prevent the isolation that can occur in more institutional settings.
